Despite starting his career with Deepa Mehta’s critically acclaimed film Earth (1998), and taking up unconventional and offbeat roles, Rahul couldn’t make it big in Bollywood.

"Actors have very little control on our careers as it depends on the kind of projects we are offered. I have always tried to make the best choices. I want to do projects that suited my personality and I could connect with," he says.

While the actor hasn’t worked in a lot of Bollywood films, he has been part of some international projects. So is he is looking for a career in Hollywood? "I just look for good films irrespective of the geographical boundaries," says Rahul.

The actor also says that he wishes to direct a film soon. "I think I would make a good director. I don’t have a script right now, but I plan to direct a film soon," he says, adding that he wishes to work with his father and younger brother Akshaye Khanna in a movie. "We talk about working together all the time. It will be a special project for us," he adds.
