Bollywood stars are known for immortalising die-hard lovers on the big-screen but in real life many of them choose the traditional way of matrimony. The latest example of the arranged marriage trend is Haider star Shahid Kapoor, who has tied the knot with Delhi girl Mira Rajput in Gurgaon.
The 34-year-old actor surprised everyone with the news of him going for the traditional route.
In 2013, when asked what he looks for in a partner, Shahid had said, "I have not thought about it so much. When you fall in love everything seems right... If I fall in love that will be good enough."
Shahid was in a relationship with actor Kareena Kapoor Khan for over three years and later linked to Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Bipasha Basu.
Superstar Salman Khan, who has always made headlines for his relationships with various actresses, has also expressed his desire to settle down in an arranged set up. "I am open to arranged marriage. Sometimes, love marriages don't work and arranged marriages do. And sometimes, it's the other way round. It depends on the individuals, how they go about their lives, how compatible they are," Salman had said.
Several other B-town celebrities have also tread the same path. Actor Madhuri Dixit had an arranged marriage with doctor Shriram Nene in 1999. Madhuri then moved to the US and bid farewell to Bollywood, not for long though. She came to India with the musical drama Aaja Nachle in 2007 and went back again only to return permanently to Mumbai in 2011 along with her husband and two sons.
