After being trolled for his name, followed by a possible audition for Game of Thrones, actor Neil Nitin Mukesh became a target of social media users. He was ridiculed for his latest interview where he revealed his “mom once said that she wants to be born as (his) girlfriend in the next birth.”

While trollers had a field day on Saturday making fun of his statement, Neil maintains his stand and explains why he made the statement.

In an exclusive chat, he tells Hindustan Times, “You need to understand the emotional connotation and the context of the statement rather than taking it at face value.”

The 34-year-old explains his statement and adds that he is still flattered by his mother’s comments. “My mother appreciates the fact that there very few good men left like my father, who are thorough gentlemen and belong to the old school of thought when it comes to matters of the heart, and her son happens to be one of them. She feels whoever I will marry will be a lucky woman. Isn’t it beautiful that a mother can understand her child so well and be confident of his character?” he asks.

Neil was panned on Twitter for his “weird” comments, but the Johnny Gaddar actor says in his defence, “I’m not really perturbed by the opinion of a certain sect of people on social media who don’t know me or my family personally, and are quick to dismiss and slow to appreciate.”

He further adds he is fed up of people making “insensitive” remarks about him and his family. “Social media lacks insight, common sense and emotion. Understand that while it’s easy to condemn celebrities on social media, people should also think of repercussions their insensitive remarks can make on the celebrities’ family. In case there is a doubt, ask the celebrity in question before slandering,” he says.
