Sex in the book is described in the crassest way possible. And, unless you’re a guy who passed out of Delhi University, the language will often leave you cringing. But the book is fun, a coming of age (not quite entirely) novella about 17-year-old Hriday Thakur from Patna. As he starts his course in English in Delhi University, Hriday has no ambition, no clear moral standards and just a vague idea that he wants to be a writer one day. DU plays an important role in the novel; the politics, the 20-somethings who never pass, the girls’ colleges and Romeos who stand outside hopefully — all are delightfully and accurately portrayed.
