Q. Is your latest book a covert feminist rant? - Ritwik, Chennai
Ranting and raving for men and women to have equal opportunities can only be a good thing, right? The male protagonist occupies as much space as the females in my book.
Ranting and raving for men and women to have equal opportunities can only be a good thing, right? The male protagonist occupies as much space as the females in ‘When Mira Went Forth and Multiplied’. Sam only wants some fun and wanting fun is gender-neutral enough. Mira feels lust but calls it ‘love’ – not very feminist of her. I think Mira is hard-pressed to think of herself as a woman 24/7. Yes, she ovulates. But if she didn’t or couldn’t, there would have been other experiences, equally intense and disconcerting, lined up for her. I would say this novel is more about guilt than gender politics.
