About Randeep

Date of birth: August 20

Born in: Rohtak

Hometown: Mumbai

Sunsign: Leo

School/college: MNSS Rai, Sonepat and DPS, R K Puram, Delhi/ Melbourne University

Debut: Monsoon Wedding (2001)

Low point of your life: My last release, Laal Rang, suffered because it didn’t get a proper release, which hurt me a lot. Also, losing my horse Simply Supreme.

High point of your life: The adulation I got for Highway (2014)

You once wanted to be a wildlife photographer. What spots would you recommend for that?

I would definitely love to go to Masai Mara National Park in Kenya. In India, Ranthambore, Dudhwa National Park and Orang National Park are my favourites.

The best thing about the movie Monsoon Wedding was...

Meeting Naseeruddin Shah, who has shaped and mentored me in many ways.

What was your most memorable road trip?

A few years ago, there was a Greenpeace meet in Australia. Three of my friends and I got together, pooled in money, bought a van, painted it with peace signs to travel and participate in this movement. About 30 kms into the journey, we saw smoke coming out of the engine, and we had to abandon our journey right there. So, it became a truly memorable journey (laughs).

Which is your favourite app to connect with your fans?

All the apps have a different set of audience. I feel that Instagram gets you in less shit. Twitter is more elitist and doesn’t reach the whole country. I connect with the people of my village through Facebook, which helps me connect with the masses.

An ad you would love to be a part of?

I loved the Old Spice ads. The polo and the surfing shown there was a big attraction.

Are you on Tinder?

No! That would be highly embarrassing.

If you were on Tinder, what would your bio read?

Don’t know. Perhaps it would be, ‘Try me!’.

What advice would you give to someone trying to lose weight?

I would tell them to lose weight slowly, with a balanced diet instead of opting for any crash diet. Also, I would advise them to not read beauty magazines that make one feel ugly. The mantra is to be happy with your body.

What gets you in the mood for love?

Jazz and chocolates.

Are you happy with the way Haryana is being projected in Bollywood?

I’m glad that movies on Haryana like Dangal are finally getting made. Also, Haryanvi as a dialect is very sexy.

My favourites:

Food: Protein shake, bananas and peanut butter

Street food: Pav bhaji in Mumbai, and gol gappe and chhole bhature in Delhi

Destination: My village, Daseya (Haryana)

Actor: Marlon Brando. I’m a big fan of his energy and style of work.

Cartoon: Tom and Jerry
