Moreover, weakening of dollar overseas against other currencies also supported the domestic currency, dealers said.

Gain in stock market in early trade also helped rupee strengthen against the dollar, they added.

On Thursday, rupee had ended flat at 67.48 against the US dollar on fag-end selling of the greenback by bankers and exporters in view of a weak dollar in overseas markets.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered 47.92 points or 0.17% to trade at 26,813.57 in early trade.
