The search for a new chairman and managing director of NTPC Ltd — which accoutns for nearly Rs 42,000 crore in sales — has begun with a shortlist of names that is not exactly short.

Current CMD R.S. Sharma is due to complete his term at the end of August. Interviews for the new post are being held by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on March 9, a senior government official told Hindustan Times.

The 16 shortlisted candidates, who have been called for the interview includes four from within NTPC (see list).

NTPC’s recent follow-on-public offer, the first of the present UPA government, had received lukewarm response from investors, especially retail investors.

This has cast a shadow on the fate of upcoming offers lined up by the government for the next few months.
