State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) was on Saturday awarded the 'FICCI Award for Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control' 2005 for its contribution towards preservation of nature.

A jury headed by the former Chief Justice of India PN Bhagwati unanimously selected BHEL's Trichy Unit for the coveted award, a company statement said.
Receiving the Award at the hands of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi, BHEL Managing Director Ashok K Puri said the company shares the growing concern on issues related to environmental and occupational health and safety.
BHEL takes care to protect the environment around its own establishment and is committed to provide safe and healthy environment to all its employees, the statement said.
