Chouhan announces poverty schemes

Stressing the need for formulating a new definition of poverty in the country, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assigned the task to Nirdhan Varg Kalyan Ayog.

"The Ayog will organise seminars on the issue to arrive at a more acceptable definition of poverty by initiating a national level debate on the vexed issue as poverty has no caste, it is all pervasive," Chouhan said on Friday.

"In order to remove difference among people in the society, the Ayog will suggest ways to bring poor among the main stream," he said.

He announced various schemes for economically weak students among the general class like Swami Vivekanand Pre-Metric Scholarship, Swami Vivekanand Post-Metric Scholarship, Sudama Monthly Scholarship and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Topper Student Encouragement Scheme.

Besides, he announced Vikramaditya Free of Cost Education Scheme for professional colleges, Veerangna Laxmibai Cycle Scheme, Sandipni Sanskrit Language Publicity Scheme, Maa Saraswati Akshay Kosh Scheme and Acharya Vidyasagar Gou Samvardhan Scheme.
