India FY12 power sector coal imports seen at 60 mln T

The country's power sector is expected to import more coal in 2011/12 than in the current fiscal year to end-March, Power Secretary P Uma Shankar said on Thursday.

The country's power sector is expected to import more coal in 2011/12 than in the current fiscal year to end-March, power secretary P Uma Shankar said on Thursday.

"This year (2010), coal imports is expected at 45 million tonnes and next financial year it should be more than that... about 60 million tonnes," Shankar told reporters.

In the last fiscal year to end-March 2010, the country's total coal imports stood at 73.25 million tonnes.
