NR Narayana Murthy, co-founder and executive chairman of Infosys on Friday said board members BG Srinivas and Pravin Rao were contenders for the CEO’s post. Infosys had on January 3 appointed Srinivas and Rao as presidents who now report to current CEO SD Shibulal.

“We would like one of the two presidents to become CEO after Shibulal, though this is not for us to decide. The nominations committee would take a call if they want an outsider (as CEO),” Murthy said at a press conference in Mysore to announce the company’s third quarter results. The appointment of the two presidents is an important initiative to help the nomination committee create an internal place for selecting the next CEO, he added.

Over the last six months, eight senior executives, including CEO front-runners Ashok Vemuri and V Balakrishnan, had quit the company since Murthy rejoined the IT major in June.

Murthy said he was “sad” at the departures of the eight executives but added that investors had nothing to worry.

Following the creation of two presidents, the company has decided to dissolve the executive council as a forum from April 1.
