Is there any software that allows me to query a dictionary while reading any text anywhere on the PC?
Get the free Merriam Webster's Concise dictionary, from cnet.com in the downloads section. Find it in the Languages section, under the Home and Education category. Move your mouse cursor over a word and the dictionary article appears instantly in a pop-up box. Also try Pardon, from softbear.no. With 2,00,000 words, it also provides access to several other dictionaries. If you use RedHat Linux 8 and use KDE, you will find a free Dictionary look-up utility called Kdict that sits on the taskbar. To install, just right-click the taskbar, choose Add Applet from the pop-up menu and select 'Dictionary'.
