The decision was taken at a board meeting of the NKVI on Thursday, when representatives from the NE states demanded special consideration for the region in view of its locational disadvantage.

“The KVIC’s operations need to be strengthened in NE. A divisional office at Silchar can provide an alternative support to the adjoining states during crisis,” a representative from NE said.

“The government is committed to the development of KVIC, as allocation in the current fiscal has been raised from R919 crore to R1,519 crore,” said Dinsha Patel, board chairman and minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises.
