Nexus 7 is here, takes on iPad Mini

Eyeing a fast expanding tablet market in India, search giant Google has launched its 7-inch tablet Nexus 7 in the country through its online store Play, nearly a year after its US launch, at Rs 15,999, some Rs 6,000 cheaper than Apple's iPad Mini.
Shipping in India will start by April 5.
"At a price point of Rs 15,999 and tech specifications on offer, Nexus 7 is a clear winner when compared with the wi-fi only version of iPad Mini," said Katyayan Gupta, mobility analyst at global consultancy Forrester Research.
On features, the two are somewhat different but comparable.
While the Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor, the iPad Mini has a dual-core processor.
The screen resolution of Nexus 7 is better than iPad Mini as it sports a full HD display with 216 pixels per inch while the wi-fi only version of the iPad Mini has a 163 pixels per inch display.
However, that iPad Mini scores with a dual camera, while the Nexus 7 has only one.
Gupta said the Nexus 7 may face a bigger competition from Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 that offers a 3G version (apart from wi-fi). "Google may also need to quickly work on the service centres for Nexus 7 within India, as post-sales services are crucial aspect for any device," he added.
