Obama aide sees Mumbai rising

Setting the tone for US President Barack Obama’s visit to India next month, Lawrence Summers, director, White House National Economic Council, said that India and US are natural allies and are indispensable for each other.

Setting the tone for US President Barack Obama’s visit to India next month, Lawrence Summers, director, White House National Economic Council, said that India and US are natural allies and are indispensable for each other.

“Two world powers (US and India) driven not by desire to dominate but a desire to innovate are natural allies.

Obama views India as an indispensable partner for the US, he said. “In 2040, the discussion will be less about Washington consensus or Beijing consensus, it will be about Mumbai consensus.”

Obama’s visit to Indian — his longest foreign visit — signifies the importance of Indo-US relationship, Summers said.

“I am hopeful that the momentum in the global economic integration will continue.”
