PIB, railways bag web ratna awards

The inaugural Web Ratna awards, 2009 have been announced, and the Platinum Icon awards go to Press Information Bureau (PIB), Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry System, CIC Online (Filing of appeal & complaints online with CIC), and the Indian Tsunami Early Warning System.

The inaugural Web Ratna awards, 2009 have been announced, and the Platinum Icon awards go to Press Information Bureau (PIB), Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry System, CIC Online (Filing of appeal & complaints online with CIC), and the Indian Tsunami Early Warning System.

Altogether 24 organisations were given Web Ratna awards in Platinum, Gold and Silver Icon categories.

“A large number of government employees have been associated with the national portal of (http://www.india.gov.in), which was launched as a mission mode project four years back, said B.K. Gairola, director-general of National Informatics Centre (NIC). “This award is aimed at recognising contribution of such individuals and groups and at encouraging more and more people to contribute towards the enrichment of the portal.”

“The awards also recognise the departments/individuals for taking exemplary initiatives in e-governance using the medium of web,” said Neeta Verma, senior technical director, NIC.
