Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Thursday that the government would earmark Rs 300 billion for water related projects across the country.

Presenting the General Budget for fiscal 2004-05 to Parliament, Chidambaram said all water bodies across the country would be rejuvenated in a phased manner.
Initially, Rs one billion would be spent on five pilot projects for linking water bodies in five districts, he added.
The finance minister said Rs 300 million had been allocated for flood control measures in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
