The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened lower at 15,530.386 points, ended at 15,376.13 points (provisional), down 142.36 points or 0.92 per cent.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed in the red, losing 35.15 points or 0.76 per cent from its previous closing figure to end at 4,569.85 points.
Broader market indices closed mixed, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.25 per cent down, while the the BSE smallcap index closed 0.23 per cent higher.
