With re-elections in Delhi almost inevitable, the hike in fuel prices and railway fares by its own government at the Centre has become a matter of worry for the Delhi BJP unit.
According to sources, in a weekly meeting of the state unit on Tuesday, union health minister and Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan asked local leaders and the cadre to concentrate on membership drive. He also hinted that the re-elections can happen in two to six months.
“A number of leaders in the meeting expressed concern over the financial decisions taken by the Centre. From LPG to petrol, the price of several commodities is going up every day. If re-elections are held, what will we showcase to the people? They had elected us hoping that we will be able to control the prices,” said a senior BJP leader.
Sources said a number of senior BJP leaders and MLAs expressed concerned over the decisions taken in the past few days. “The situation has become quite bad. On Tuesday, even the press statement by the state unit clearly mentioned that they are quite unhappy,” added the leader.
The press statement said: “The leaders expressed their concern over the financial decisions taken recently by the Central government and were confident that the government will shortly take such steps so that the impact of these decisions is minimised.”
