Kawasaki India has recently shared a post of the W230 on its social media, marking the 60th anniversary of the W lineup of motorcycles. Now, this is surprising because the brand already sells the W175, and they could have used it for the post, but they decided to use the W230. This raises the question of whether Kawasaki is planning to launch the W230 in the Indian market or not. While we don't have any official confirmation from the brand, there is a possibility that the W230 might make its way to our shores.

Kawasaki W230 could replace the W175 in the brand's portfolio.

Kawasaki uses a 233 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 17.3 bhp of max power at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque output of 18.6 Nm at 5,800 rpm. The gearbox on duty is a 6-speed unit. This is the same engine that the brand recently localised in our country for the KLX230, so they are already producing it here. Because of this, there is a high possibility that the brand ends up bringing the W230 to India. The new motorcycle might also end up replacing the W175 because it has not been doing well in terms of sales, despite the Street variant also being on sale. When compared to the W175, the W230 looks more premium, feels more retro and upmarket and has better road presence as well which the W175 lacks substantially.

In terms of features, the Kawasaki W230 is pretty bare bone but that is fine considering it is a retro motorcycle. Customers get an LED headlight, a dual-channel anti-lock braking system for safety and a vintage twin-dial instrument cluster that has a small digital display for some information.

Underpinning the Kawasaki W230 is a semi-double cradle steel frame that is suspended by 37 mm telescopic forks in the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear with preload adjustability. The front suspension has 116 mm of wheel travel, whereas the rear one has 93 mm of wheel travel. The wheel size is 18-inch in the front and a 17-inch at the rear. The front tyre measures 90/90 whereas the rear one is a 110/90 unit. Braking duties are performed by a 265 mm disc with 2 piston caliper and at the rear, there is a 220 mm disc with a single-piston caliper.
