Mercedes-Benz has said that its upcoming launches will include both new-generation products and models that do not have a direct predecessor in the current Indian lineup. The CLA electric will bring the next-generation CLA nameplate to India exclusively with an electric powertrain.

Powertrain, performance & driving range of CLA electric

Internationally, the CLA EV will be sold with two powertrain configurations. The rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ with EQ Technology is claimed to offer a range of up to 792 km. The all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology has a stated range of 770 km.

Both variants use a newly developed rear-mounted permanent magnet motor that is smaller and lighter than previous units. Unlike most electric cars in the segment, the CLA EV uses a two-speed transmission instead of a conventional single-speed setup. In the CLA 250+, the rear motor produces 272 hp, allowing the car to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

The CLA 350 4MATIC adds a second electric motor on the front axle, paired with a single-speed gearbox. Combined system output rises to 354 hp, reducing the 0-100 km/h time to 4.9 seconds. Regenerative braking is designed to handle most braking situations, with energy recovery of up to 200 kW.

CLA electric battery & charging details

The CLA EV is built around an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 320 kW. Mercedes-Benz claims this can add approximately 300 km of driving range in around 10 minutes. At launch, the model will be offered with an 85 kWh battery pack, while a smaller 58 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery is expected to be introduced later.
