Mohan Sharma, owner of a brick-kiln in Barwala, was quite upset over the disconnection of his tubewell's power connection for non-payment of bills. He had been running from pillar to post to get the connection reinstated, but in vain.

Pushpender Kumar, additional foreman, and lineman Jai Chand, employees of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, offered to do it for Sharma.

Kumar demanded Rs 10,000 for the job. A deal was struck.
Meanwhile, Sharma complained to the VB. A team under inspector Raj Pal was formed. When Sharma, along with an independent witness, went to Barwala's power department office with the bribe, Kumar directed him to give it to Jai Chand. As soon as Jai Chand took the cash, the VB team arrived and arrested both the accused.

"A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the employees. They will be produced before the court on Wednesday," said inspector Pal.
