25-yr-old booked for raping woman on pretext of marriage in Ludhiana

The accused promised to marry the victim but later refused

A resident of New Shakti Nagar was booked on Thursday for raping a woman on the pretext of marriage.

The accused has been identified as Rajit Verma, 25.

The victim is a resident of the same locality as the accused. She stated in her complaint that she was in a relationship with Verma for the last five year. He had promised to solemnise their marriage and also introduced her to his mother and sister.

The victim alleged that Verma had established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and also clicked lewd pictures of her. Later, he married another woman, she said.

She added that the accused threatened to upload the pictures on social networking sites if she registers a complaint with the police.

ASI Baldev Raj, who is investigating the case, said that an FIR under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code has been lodged against the accused. A hunt is on for his arrest.
