Police have arrested four persons allegedly to be members of a gang of vehicle-snatchers and claim to have solved a number of cases of thefts as well as snatchings in the district.
Those arrested are Daljinder Singh alias Sahil (25), Barinder Singh alias Gullu (20) and Raju (20), all residents of Ambala, and Anu alias Deepak (20) of Yamunanagar.
"These four are members of a gang involved in a number of vehicle-lifting and theft cases. They are all drug addicts who took to crime to raise money to buy drugs," said SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Monday. One of their accomplices is still absconding and efforts are on to catch him.
A Pulsar motorcycle and an Alto car snatched in February 2012 from Handesra area in SAS Nagar was seized from the accused.
In a case registered on February 11, 2012, Sukhwinder Singh, a driver with Mullana University, said that he was returning after dropping a relative of his employer at Naraingarh in car (HR-54A-4942) when at around 11pm on February 10 last, he was intercepted by two unknown persons, who snatched Rs 1,200 and mobile phone from him and sped away with the car.
"The accused used to snatch the vehicles and sell them. All are school dropouts. The accused had snatched the Alto car but could not sell it," Bhullar said.
In the first week of February, the accused had allegedly snatched a car along with Rs 9,000 cash from Kesri village near Saha (Haryana), an Alto car on Saharanpur road in Yamunanagar about 45 days ago and a Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib about two months ago. They abandoned the motorcycle after reaching Yamunanagar and fled after snatching a car which was later sold in UP.
