Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has given the nod for developing 40 acres of vacant land in the heart of Amritsar as a 'nature conservation park', for which experts would be roped in for landscaping, a spokesman said.

"The land must be developed as a state-of-the-art park on the lines of New York's nature park," the chief minister said at a high-level meeting in which he took stock of the project here. He asked the state's chief architect to visit the site.

Underscoring the need to enhance the green cover in the holy city, Badal emphasised the need for green cover in cities that were growing haphazardly.
