Abandoned by parents, minor girls rescued

The Janwadi Mahila Samiti came to the rescue of two mentally-challenged minor sisters who were abandoned by their parents at their house in local Vinod Nagar.
Their parents, Jaggu, a casual worker and an 'alcoholic', and Mona had strained relations. On July 9, the couple left home one after another following a tiff. While Mona left the house by taking third child, a five-year-old boy, along, Jaggu tied two daughters (aged 6 and 8) to the cots before leaving.
On Saturday, a woman in the neighbourhood heard the cries of the hapless girls, who were thirsty and hungry. However, she did not dare to enter the house and informed Neelam Verma, an activist of Janwadi Mahila Samiti.
Neelam called her colleagues, opened the house and gave the girls something to eat and drink. The neighbours called a maternal uncle of the girls and handed them over to him.
