"Badal should apply his mind to what he is intending to say before proverbially putting his foot in his mouth," Singh said in a statement here.

The former CM was reacting to Badal's recent demand seeking royalty on use of river waters of Punjab by the neighbouring states.

Before making such statements Badal should think of the consequences of such a statement would have on the future of Punjab, he said.

"If we (Punjab) claim royalty from Haryana, has he (Badal) thought as to what can prevent Himachal Pradesh from claiming royalty for all three rivers -- Ravi, Beas and Sutlej -- used by us...," Singh asked.
