The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Singh, a 40-year-old resident of Ahema village. His body has been sent to civil hospital for post mortem examination.

Locals said Singh was alone in the house when the gun triggered as his wife had gone to her parents' house.

According to them, when the milkman's knock was not answered by Singh in the morning, he peeped through the window to find him lying dead and thereafter informed the police.

Sadar police station in-charge Jaspal Singh said, "It would be established after the post mortem whether Singh had died in the night or the following morning."

However, he suspects it to be a case of accidental firing, adding that the investigations were on.
