Atwal takes oath as pro tem speaker of Punjab assembly

Charanjit Singh Atwal today took oath as pro tem speaker of Punjab assembly in Chandigarh. Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil administered the oath of office and secrecy to Atwal at Punjab Raj Bhawan.

Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, senior political leaders from the state, besides senior civil and police officers were among those present at the brief ceremony held at Punjab Raj Bhavan here, an official release said.

Atwal, a former deputy speaker of Lok Sabha, is Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Payal (SC) constituency.
