Badal announces remission for prisoners on Baisakhi

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced to grant remission of sentence to prisoners up to one year on April 13, the auspicious occasion of 'Baisakhi.'

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday announced to grant remission of sentence to prisoners up to one year on April 13, the auspicious occasion of 'Baisakhi.'

An official spokesman said the inmates who had been convicted by the criminal courts in the state would get this benefit.

He said the remission of one year would be granted to the prisoners who had been awarded imprisonment from 10 to 20 years. Likewise, remission of nine months would be given to those imprisoned for 7 to 10 years, six months in case of 5 to 7 years, three months to those sentenced for a jail term of 3 to 5 years and two months to the prisoners with less than 3 years.

However, the remission would not be granted to a person convicted in heinous crimes, he added.
