Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday called upon the Pakistani media to play a proactive role in improving bilateral relations between the two countries through people to people communication.

Addressing a 40-member delegation from Lahore Press Club led by its president Sarmad Bashir here, Badal said, "Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab shared affinity in language, culture and cuisine.

"It was high time when both the countries made concerted efforts to send regular delegation of media, artistes and cultural troops to boost the socio–cultural ties between both the nations."

Badal also emphasised the need for stepping up Indo-Pak trade across the border for insuring mutual economic stability between both the countries, said an official release here.

The chief minister asked the Ministries of External Affairs of both the countries to relax the viza norms especially for the journalists who could play a vital role in further giving a fillip to the confidence building exercise, it added.
