Badal has written to Naik that Punjab has defended the country in three wars since Independence, and lost many heroes who’d be commemorated on the 7-acre site on the Amritsar-Attari road.

The foundation stone of the project worth ? 100 crore was laid on February 12 in presence of decorated officers of the three defence forces, and the work had commenced in May.

“The state government will also gather funds for the project through culture cess but would still require the central assistance to complete the memorial by October 2015,” said the chief minister.

The project would create a sense of history and national pride amongst the youth, and so it was important to the country, said the chief minister.
