In February 2010, the country had inked Rs 3,600-crore deal to acquire the 12 three-engine AW-101 helicopters from Agusta Westland for IAF’s elite Communication Squadron, which ferries the President, PM and other VVIPs. It has been alleged that commission was paid to middlemen through fake contracts with Aeromatrix and IDS Infotech.

CEO of Aeromatrix Praveen Bakshi was earlier heading the aerodynamics department at IDS. A number of employees from IDS also joined at Aeromatrix.

The Aeromatrix has agreed that 90 per cent turnover of the company is from AgustaWestland. Earlier, it was a client of IDS but after the formation of Aeromatrix, it was moved to them.
