For amicable resolution of the long-pending issue of merging ETT (elementary teacher training) teachers in the education department, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday consented to constituting a high-powered committee for the purpose.

The committee will comprise the CM; the rural development and panchayat minister; and the education minister, besides the chief secretary and principal secretaries of the two departments concerned. Badal decided it in a meeting with a five-member delegation of the teachers led by ETT Association president Jaswinder Singh Sidhu here, a spokesman in Chandigarh has said.

The sending of these teachers deployed in panchayati raj institution schools back to the education department is a long-standing demand. The committee would meet after the assembly byelections in Patiala and Talwandi Sabo to give its recommendations, said the government spokesman.
