Education dept cell checks 238 offices

A special monitoring cell of the education department of Punjab on Tuesday conducted surprise checks in 238 offices of the department across the state. This was part of a campaign launched by the department to ensure 100% attendance.

A spokesman quoted education minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema as saying that 68 employees were found absent whereas 96 latecomers were noticed during the check. He said it was also found that there were 16 employees who were not attending offices since a long time.

In all, 111 offices were raided in Nabha in Patiala division, where 12 employees were found absent, 34 latecomers and 10 employees were found absent since a long time. In Jalandhar division, 64 offices were raided and 36 employees found absent, 47 latecomers and three long-time absentees. In 63 offices of Faridkot division, 20 employees were absent, 15 latecomers and three were absent since a long time.

Cheema did not announce action against the erring staff members but only an advice against inefficiency.
