Farmers asked to stop stubble burning

Punjab forest and wildlife preservation minister Chunni Lal Bhagat on Tuesday urged farmers to stop stubble burning so as to keep the environment pollution-free. He said farmers could use stubble as an organic fertiliser.

Punjab forest and wildlife preservation minister Chunni Lal Bhagat on Tuesday urged farmers to stop stubble burning so as to keep the environment pollution-free. He said farmers could use stubble as an organic fertiliser.

Bhagat advised farmers to sell the stubble to biomass plants for generating electricity. He said farmers could earn Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,400 per acre of stubble.

The minister said farmers could contact biomass plants at Gulabewala village and Channu village (Muktsar district), Gadda Dob village (Ferozepur district), Bhagora village (Patiala district) and Bijjo village (Hoshiarpur district).
