Five Class 12 students booked for assaulting Mohali teacher

Police have booked five Class 12 students for assaulting a schoolteacher at SAS Nagar on Sunday. The victim, Ranbir Singh (42), a Punjabi teacher at 3B1 Government School, in his complaint said that he was intercepted by the five students at Phase 4 in SAS Nagar on Saturday.

Police have booked five Class 12 students for assaulting a schoolteacher at SAS Nagar on Sunday.


The victim, Ranbir Singh (42), a Punjabi teacher at 3B1 Government School, in his complaint said that he was intercepted by the five students at Phase 4 in SAS Nagar on Saturday.

"I had asked one of the assaulters, Gurjeet Singh, to remove his wrongly-parked car from opposite the principal's office. At this, I had been abused and threatened," he claimed.

The accused have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Balongi and Rajveer Singh, a resident of Dessu Majra. They are Arts students at the school where the victim teaches. Three of the accused are unidentified, but are said to students of Class 12 of the Arts stream.

The police have said that no weapon was used in the assault and cases have been registered against Gurjeet Singh, Rajveer Singh and three unidentified aides under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (Unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.
