Fog engulfs north India, affects train, air travel

Owing to poor visibility, all the five flights scheduled for take-off from Chandigarh airport were cancelled. An official said visibility was less than 100 metres. The minimum visibility for flights to operate is 1.2 km.
Meanwhile, the inclement weather also affected rail traffic. The morning Shatabdi Express that reaches Chandigarh at 11.05 am was delayed by two hours. Also, Howrah-Kalka Express was behind schedule by seven hours and the Himalyan Queen was delayed by an hour. Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, the fog delayed the Howrah-Amritsar Express by three-and-a-half hours and the Tata Nagar-Jammu-Tawi Express by eight hours. Even short-distance trains were late due to the weather conditions.
