A press conference was organised in this regard by the members of Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan in which, organisation chairman Surinder Kalyan said, “We are opposing the state government’s decision of giving contract to a private firm, as the members of Valmiki Samaj have been doing this work for the past several years. The government is doing wrong.”

Kalyan said the sweepers were being forced to live a difficult life, as they were always being exploited. The sewer cleaners were not getting required safety and facilities, he claimed.

During the press conference, Kalyan claimed the state government had assured them of the development of Valmiki Samaj, but it had failed to fulfil its promises.
