Acting on a public interest litigation seeking steps to enforce a ban on synthetic kite string, the Punjab and Haryana high court has asked the governments of Punjab and Haryana to file status reports by Tuesday.

The petitioner, activist-advocate HC Arora, argued that the string is a good conductor of electricity, and many children while flying kites had died due to electrocution when the string touched transmission wires.

He also cited some examples and submitted that Punjab had banned its sale but that was not being enforced. The HC directed Haryana too to submit a report as to whether it had placed a ban against sale of this string or not.
