The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday granted a month’s time to the Amritsar police to present the challans in the trial court with regard to the two first information reports (FIRs) registered at the civil lines police station, Amritsar, on May 9 and 10, including the one pertaining to the attack on advocate Vineet Mahajan.

The division bench comprising chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and justice Arun Palli directed the state police to also submit the compliance report in the court by July 18.

The directions came while hearing of a PIL filed by the Punjab and Haryana high court Bar association, seeking a CBI probe into the attack on Mahajan in Amritsar on May 10 and into the registration of an alleged false FIR against another advocate, Sandeep Gorsi, on May 9.

It was alleged that since Mahajan and Gorsi had exposed the “fraud and forgery” committed by cabinet minister Anil Joshi in the ‘dual vote case’, Joshi was time and again attacking them.

During the hearing of the case on Thursday, the state police also submitted the case status report in a sealed cover, which the court handed over back to the police after reading it.
