The decision was taken after the SAS Nagar civil surgeon in a meeting with the deputy commissioner raised the issue of several hookah bars operating in the city.

The civil surgeon said the hookah served at these bars contained nicotine and even minors were smoking this.

SAS Nagar DC Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu under section 144 of CrPC, 1973, banned all hookah bars.
An action would be initiated against those failing to comply with the orders.

Sidhu said the decision was taken keeping in view the health and goodwill of public and to ensure that school and college-going youngsters and minors do not become victims of such things.
