The honorarium for house surgeons has been increased from Rs 4,500 to Rs 21,000 per month, whereas the monthly scholarship for medical internship students has been hiked from Rs 1,500 to Rs 9,000.
Announcing the raise, Punjab medical research and education minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said this increase in honorarium of house surgeons would be effective from October 8, 2012, and the hike in scholarship for medical interns in government medical/dental/ayurvedic colleges of the state would be effective from November 1, 2012.
The minister said the state government had also decided in principle to further increase the honorarium of house surgeons from Rs 21,000 to Rs 30,000, but this increase would be effective from April 1, 2013.
