J-K: Minister and independent candidate booked for poll code violation

District election authorities have registered two separate FIRs against a minister and independent candidate for poll code violation and indulging in violence in Jammu on Saturday.

District election authorities have registered two separate FIRs against a minister and independent candidate for poll code violation and indulging in violence in Jammu on Saturday.

The case has been registered against minister of state Manohar Lal Sharma for leading a mob who attacked BJP candidate Nirmal Singh and indulging in other unlawful activities.

Reports suggest that deputy SP headquarter Kathua and SHO Billawar were manhandled by the mob. The case has been registered under Section 147, 148, 353, 323, 336 and 307 of RPC.

Another FIR has been lodged against an independent candidate Rajinder Singh and other unknown persons under Section 341, 147 and 427 of RPC.

District election officer Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has issued strict directions to police for immediate action against all indulging in poll violence and ensuring free and fair polls.
