Jawan shoots two women in Poonch
In a fit of rage over a suspected illicit relationship of his wife, a territorial army jawan indiscriminately opened fire with his service rifle and killed two innocent women of his locality in Poonch town on Wednesday morning.
Before the jawan could have reportedly killed four more persons who were on his target, including his wife, he was overpowered by a police team led by DSP (operation) Chaudhary Javed.
The jawan was identified as Mohammad Tariq Khan of 156 Battalion of territorial army and a resident of Potha village in Surankot tehsil. He was attached with 37 Rashtriya Rifles as dog master.
According to police, Tariq was under the impression that his wife had developed illicit relations with her neighbour in ward number 12. He also suspected that some persons, identity not disclosed by police, were helping them.
At 7 am on Wednesday, Tariq left Surankot on his motorcycle, carrying his official AK-47 rifle and three magazines, and after reaching at his house he first tried to kill his wife who escaped unscathed.
Then he went to a nearby house of his wife's paramour Mohammad Shafi and on not finding him in the house Tariq killed his mother Sara Bi, 60. After that, he entered the next house and killed another women, Yasmeen.
In the shootout, six-year-old Sariya Parveen was also hurt and shifted to the hospital.
Immediately after the firing on Sara Bi, people informed the police. Before Tariq could head towards his other targets he was forcibly overpowered by the DSP and his team. He was tied with ropes and taken to a police station.
Police recovered 40 live rounds and the AK gun from the possession of Tariq, who, according to police, had a plan to kill six to seven persons.
Tariq has been booked for murder and police have started investigation to find out the actual reason behind this episode.
