Khaira is PPCC spokesman

Khaira's name was declared after being approved by the All India Congress Committee, a party release said here.

Shortly after becoming the state Congress chief last month, Bajwa had appointed younger brother Fatehjung Singh Bajwa as the PPCC general secretary and Khaira as the spokesperson. However, the decisions had been reversed soon as the appointments were apparently made without the party high command's consent.

Khaira was elected MLA from Bholath (Kapurthala district) in the 2002 and 2007 assembly polls. He defeated senior Akali leader Bibi Jagir Kaur on both occasions. However, he lost to Jagir Kaur in the 2012 elections.

Khaira's father Sukhjinder Singh served as the education minister in the Akali government in the 1980s.
