He told the media here on Wednesday that though all the Congress wings and senior leaders would participate in the protests, the YC demonstrations would be in all the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. “We will hold protests in Faridabad on Thursday and at other places in the coming days,” he said.

Sihag said these “Kisan Satyagraha” protests would continue till January 23, after which senior leaders, including state party president Ashok Tanwar, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and state Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry, would join a statewide protest. “While the previous UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government had amended the Act, the NDA government has brought changes to it by ordinance to make it anti-farmer,” he said.

The provision for taking the consent of 70 to 80% of the stakeholders before acquiring any land was being removed, claimed Sihag, adding that the social impact analysis clause would also go. “There is no longer the provision for returning the land in case it is not used for the purpose it was acquired,” the state Youth Congress president said.

Sihag also said the policies of the NDA and the state BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government were “anti-poor” and in favour of corporate houses.
