Karnal and the adjoining districts experienced season's maiden light showers on Saturday morning. However, it drizzled intermittently in the daytime. Cloudy weather forced people to remain indoors.

According to the Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Scientists at Karnal-based Directorate of Wheat Research said the region had witnessed a sharp and sudden fall in the temperature due to snowfall in the higher reaches.

A wheat expert said the low temperature was ideal for rabi crops and rain in the next few days would be beneficial for the wheat crop.
