The recently-appointed Punjab Mahila Congress president, Keetu Grewal, has dissolved the women wing’s state executive and district committees to pave the way for reconstitution of the wing.

About a fortnight ago, All India Mahila Congress president Shobha Ojha had appointed Grewal as the Punjab president, replacing Malti Thapar who had completed her tenure.

Ojha told HT over phone, “Keetu Grewal had sought permission from me to dissolve the bodies, which I readily gave so that a new formation can take its place in the state.”

Asked if state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa was also taken into confidence about the dissolution of the committees — he had reportedly been kept out of the loop on Grewal’s appointment — Ojha said all senior party officials concerned were informed. “Moreover, Mahila Congress is an independent wing, hence it is the prerogative of the All India Mahila Congress to take all decisions in this regard,” she said.
